Welcome to 2013! I am at Maho Bay, St. John, USVI. While I now have a blog on my website, swimmuse.com, I can't use it from here. Having opted to leave the laptop at home, I am relegated to digging up my under-used SwimMuse spot with Blogger. Like you were worried about this. :)
The camp begins this afternoon...I think at 3:00? We'll meander down the long trail of stairs to the
bay sometime in the next hour or so. Alan will scout for the shop which will be scuba headquarters for him. I'll hang out to find some old friends from last year and see what is going on.
I gather we'll be put into our groups, do some swimming and get video-taped. Tonight we'll have some kind of gathering, I guess to go over the plan for the week. I'm glad we are staying at the Maho camp itself this year instead of the Westin. While more rustic, it is quite beautiful. We have a bay view, plus trees. The breeze is wonderful and sleeping to the sound of tree frogs was very peaceful, at least to us.
Like last year, I feel under-prepared for long swims. As long as the pace is pretty easy, I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm still wrestling with laryngitis, probably part of the Arena Stage "My Fair Lady" legacy of illness. But since that, plus some coughing, seems to be the only problem, I should be fine. The salt water and air will help too, I'm sure.
Yesterday I saw Sarah and Rhonda and nephew, Helenita, Alice, Cab, Christian and Shane...I met some new folk...saw Dave Cameron from afar. I know Dave Barra and Clare and Terry Laughlin and Celeste are around. Right now I have that combo excitement, but I'm tired, let's go, eager, concern "am I ready?" stuff going on. And I'm emailing our cat sitter about our version of pilling the younger cat. So--more later after the first events of camp! So sad it's the last time at Maho. But I know TI camps will be elsewhere.
